Father. Businessman. Community Advocate.

Short bio

Zac Martin is a father, businessman, and community advocate running as a Republican for South Dakota House District 32, the heart of Rapid City. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Wyoming College of Law and founded the nonprofit Kids Deserve Dads. A family court case brought his son to Rapid City in 2018, and Zac has called the city home ever since. His campaign line is simple: Strong Families. Strong South Dakota.

Long bio

Zac Martin grew up an Army brat. His family settled in Cheyenne, Wyoming the summer before 7th grade. He played college baseball back east, came home to Wyoming, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Wyoming in 2004, then spent the next 13 years selling real estate in Cheyenne.

In 2018 a family court case brought his son to Rapid City, and Zac bought a house here that same year. In 2022 he moved his life here for good and earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Wyoming College of Law. What he lived through is the reason he went back to school and founded the nonprofit Kids Deserve Dads. Since then he has heard from tens of thousands of parents, moms and dads, caught in the same system.

For two legislative sessions he has taken that work to Pierre, fighting for Shared Parenting alongside Sen. Tom Pischke and Rep. Bobbi Andera. Today he is a father, businessman, and community advocate running for South Dakota House District 32 on a platform built to govern, not just to win. Strong Families. Strong South Dakota.

Key messages

Economy and Rapid City

Grow what we already love. No corporate tax carveouts that pick winners and losers, strong regional backing for Ellsworth AFB and the B-21 mission, and real investment in downtown and North Rapid infrastructure, housing, and small business.

Property Taxes

Homeowners are being taxed out of houses they have lived in for decades, and young families are priced out. Zac backs real property tax relief that does not depend on a sales tax increase, and he wants to stop the headcount and spending growth quietly inflating Pierre.

Education and Schools

Parents decide, teachers teach, students learn, and bureaucracy steps aside. That means curriculum transparency by law, capping administrator pay while teachers are underpaid, no taxpayer-funded political lobbying by school districts, and funding that follows the student.
